canada fly fishing trips
Will I need a passport to return to the U.S. after going to Canada?

I'm driving in Canada through International Falls September for a fishing trip. I know you need if you're flying, but I need one to go back through the checkpoints, if I am driving?

No, I need a passport while driving across the border in 2007 (more is required of you driver's license), you need a (or the identifiers of other institutions approved) in 2008 (if things go according to schedule) passports to travel via easier and faster border http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/alerts/whti/documents_needed.xml # As on 23 January 2007, ALL persons *, including U.S. citizens, traveling air gap between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda must present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or Guard U.S. Coast Merchant Mariner Document. # As early as January 1, 2008, * ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be necessary to present a valid passport or documents as determined by the Department of Safety National. While recent legislative changes permit a later date, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Will be provided ample notice for the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land and inputs from the sea. * Citizens U.S. and Canada are strongly advised to carry a current, valid passport to help minimize and delay the interrogation. A passport is proof of citizenship and identity. * A driver's license alone is not sufficient, and voter registration cards, baptismal certificates, etc. are not accepted as proof of citizenship. * Compliance these requirements does not guarantee entry to Canada or the United States. Immigration and Customs refused entry into any country for passengers not in compliance. U.S. citizens U.S. Passport (highly recommended), or naturalization certificate or birth certificate (original or certified copy) or Consular Report of Birth of a Citizen of the United States Government in addition to valid photo identification issued * as a state driver's license (this documentation may passenger to submit additional questions at the border). Canadian * Canadian passport (strongly recommended), or * Certificate of Canadian Citizenship or birth certificate * (original or certified copy) or Canadian Registration Certificate of Birth Abroad existing PLUS * official photo identification, such as a provincial driver's license or provincial health insurance card (this documentation may refer the passenger to additional questions at the border).
