A great trip for you would northeastern Oklahoma, including the Illinois River, east of Tahlequah. There are several places to camp, without charge, have barbecues, outdoor baths and supplies near the base camp. Illinois has a big mouth (on black), small mouth and Bass Kentucky, channel catfish, perch, drum, you never know what's going to catch. Can helgramites seine for (larval stage of the dragonfly), crayfish buy or use artificial lures that resemble a crayfish craw baits more recent work of the salt with a small cadre of their heads too. There are places to use a fly rod small, but ultralite spinning gear is the best. The Illinois has its headwaters in Arkansas and many springs on the road. If you have a canoe or kayak, bring. If not, wait til Memorial Day and rent a canoe, kayak, or raft rubber. Try to go during the week as weekends are full of revelers. Indeed, Austin is approximately 7-8 hours Tahlequah.
