Diatomaceous earth can be used as a fly repellent for farm animals?

My grandfather has a lot of problems with flies in cattle. This year, flies conjunctivitis spread throughout his flock and took forever (and a decent amount of money) to get rid of the infection. I've heard flies are also spreading a disease that causes the deer to overheat and die. I know that is used to prevent flea infestations and other animals household, so I thought that perhaps could be used in livestock as well. Any opinions?

DE is still widely accepted as a natural pest control and safe alternative. I've used with success in livestock (sheep, goats and poultry). Fossil is powder – which is very small, irregular parts crushed skeleton of invertebrates. It was found that the SD is small enough to penetrate the exoskeleton of insects and parasites (both internal and external). It penetrate the bodies of insects and eggs and basically make it dries up. Though it lacks the immediate control offered by toxic aerosols, DE is widely accepted as an organic method of pest control, and is much more environmentally friendly. We dust off our animals with her and that definitely helps the flies lice and mite problems. DE can also be sprinkled over manure piles to prevent fly eggs from hatching, and added in small quantities for animal feed to help control internal parasites. I can not say with 100% certainty about the effectiveness for livestock, but has done wonders for our animals here. Make sure the food grade, not pool grade – as has been heated swimming pool grade and other chemicals have been added. For more information about it, be sure to contact your veterinarian for specific cattle farm and the use of ED.
