Fly Line
Fly Line
Why not fly transatlantic flights a straight line from origin to destination, ie, from Cleveland to London.

I was recently in a flight from Cleveland to London Gatwick. When you view the flight map on the plane, it seemed that we were not flying in a straight line directly to London, and we were flying north over Newfoundland. On the way back we flew to the north of Scotland, then on the tip of Greenland and down. Does this have anything to do with the jet stream? Or is that the flights have to stay a certain distance from the earth?

There are many reasons. 1) Because the earth is round. 2) Because the plane has to be within the contact center fixed radius. 3) Because the Earth rotates and if the plane flyes near the North Pole or south pole can be shortened flight time 4) Wind. The aircraft can fly with wind to shorten the flight time
