The Great Lakes of North America are a group of 5 large lakes, including Lake Ontario, Erie, Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. System is collectively the largest fresh water on earth. The region includes portions of northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York and the Canadian province of Ontario and the 6 U.S. states, like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The region is distinct historical and political economic and binational history, culture and political economy. The Great Lakes region is characterized by its important contribution to the culture, economy and technology.

Tourists are drawn to these natural attractions with good reason, and here's why:

Great Lakes of North America

Lake Michigan

It is the third largest in the Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The lake is limited from west to east of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Visitors can be crossed by riding a ferry to Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington, Michigan. It is home to bowfin, carp, small mouth bass, largemouth bass, pinfish, yellow perch, trout lake and some species of catfish.

Lake Huron

This is the second largest of the Great Lakes bounded on the east by the province of Ontario, Canada and west to the U.S. state of Michigan. Its surface is 176 meters above sea level and the average depth is 59 meters. There are several major cities on Lake Huron and Sarnia and Goderich, Ontario Canada, and Bay City, Cheboygan, Rogers City, Alpena, and San Ignacio Port Huron, Michigan.

The lake is home fish and plants like the now extinct in deep waters of Cisco. The notable feature here is that separates Manitoulin Island on Georgian Bay and North Channel of the main body Lake water.

Lake Erie

This is the largest of the Great Lakes and the 4th largest in the world 10. Bordered on the south by U.S. states New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio, in the north by the Canadian province of Ontario and the west by the state of Michigan. It is mainly fed by the Detroit River and is drained through the falls Falls and the Niagara River on Lake Ontario. Some of the main contributors to this lake is the Cuyahoga River, Sandusky River, Maumee River, Huron River and the Rio Grande. The lake is home to one of the largest fisheries in the commercial world of fresh water.

Rivers of the Great Lakes

St. Clair River

This river is located in central North America that drains into Lake Huron Lake St. Clair. It is 64 kilometers long and 1.5 meters from Lake Huron to Lake St. Clair. One of the important areas of the Great Lakes Waterway, where cargo ships pass through to travel between the upper and lower Great Lakes.

Niagara River

It flows northward from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. The river serves as part the border between New York and the province of Ontario in Canada. It has two major islands namely Grand Island and Goat.

San Lorenzo River

It is a large river that greatly extends from southwest to northeast North America. It connects with the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. The Saguenay, Ottawa and rivers Richelieu and Lake Champlain are being drained here.
