What size fly to use for trout?

I will be fishing in a 4X leader and I will use flies in the size range of 8-12. Is this too small or too big? They will be the nymphs and wet, no dry flies, but I have a little dry. N streamers though. Johns, mainly copper and the like

I'd say a size 8 is a little big, but its possible use, I would suggest a maximum size of 10 to say a minimum size 18, depending on where you are fishing.
