fish questions help please?
hi im 19 and have always loved im tender fish in a tank at the time that the handle of a Juwel Rio 180 comes with Eheim 2233 external filter and Hydor ETH 200 External Thermal heater that plugs into the outlet pipe of the filter. It has about 180L. So I'll have that, but What should I do once I iv. I go for marine, tropical or cold water, I've never done this before and I do not know what the easyest to care. If any body could help please ??????? thanks
I would suggest tropics. That's the best way to store an interesting and easy to care for the aquarium. What types of fish you choose will depend entirely on personal preference, although I would suggest fish easy to maintain, at least initially, as viviparous, Danios, Tetras, or spikes. The first step is to put the tank through a suitable nitrogen cycle. This may take several weeks to over a month, but it is vital for your aquarium to keep fish alive. It is much more complicated of a process of letting the tank run for a couple of weeks as suggested above. I suggest dry cycle with pure ammonia as the source. Here are some basics about the process: http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php and http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm Once your aquarium is fully cycle, add fish slowly, 2-3 per week, depending on size. Make sure you are fully educated on the basic needs of their chosen fish, including social behavior / min groups, the level of aggression, compatibility with other fish you have chosen, the PH requirements, and the minimum size of aquarium. After performing a cycle of your aquarium, you need to do 25% weekly water changes, using a siphon gravel and empty. All water new water must be treated with a conditioner that removes chlorine and chloramine before added to the tank. Finally, the best bet is to avoid completely all the pet shops and chain stores (where employees tend to be poorly educated if basic care requirements of fish, diseased fish, and the limited selection) and find a good local fish store to do business with. That's it in a nutshell, but I suggest that research in both the topic as possible. If you are bitten by fish-keeping error, never stop learning.
