Round Shakey

How to be outnumbered you will earn raving fans

You're sitting in class and the teacher in the front just say something does not entirely make sense to you. "You see, the world is flat.'s Always been flat. And always will be flat. Flat, flat, flat."

Year is 1400 AD, and you're thinking: "But what if it is not flat?" And if it is round? "

Do you put your hand and tell the teacher? Be worth burned by the Inquisition just so you can say what you think?

You probably have some ideas that challenge the mainstream.

It's hard being in business for long time and not develop their own opinions, perceptions and ideas. And some of them may be …. controversial. Talking about them can get wigs some people in a knot, and to have their fair share of rolling back and abuse.

My client was ostracized.

She was in a discussion online, and a theme emerged that had a strong opinion about, sharing. And then the next ten commentators disagree with it quickly.

Some dismissed his opinion as "irrelevant." Others accused her of being "afraid" or "timid." Not a single person who responded took in their response seriously.

Do not know about you, but when that happens to me, my instinctive response is to crawl back under the covers in a fetal position, and mourn till I fell asleep.

If you do, you leave your most recent raving fans.

See, in every conversation, there are the charlatans, and listeners. Since you are representing your company, I hope to put one foot in the "talker" position often and sincerely as possible, in any conversation that affects what you do. Whether in an online forum, the comments section of a blog, a networking event or a Saturday night bash, you may is participating in a conversation that affects their area of expertise.

The status quo may seem to hold a large amount of energy. And, entering in the spotlight talking about a controversial point of view can enter into an argument, or worse, politely ignored or brushed off.

But, you has a secret weapon.

The truth is echoed strongly.

Remember that the listeners, who heard the conversation, but not spoken? Other speakers he has run over, but his vision or opinion is still playing a chord of truth in the ears of listeners.

You see, they already believe, or want to believe, what you said. But do not want to lose. When you speak, you are a candidate for the open position of 'champion' in their minds.

If you down, or disappear, are lost and they do so. If you stand up for what you believe, even if you convince any of the other speakers, they still win with the people who really count, the listeners who need a champion.

An example: Poverty Consciousness.

Some time ago I wrote an article stating that a healthy conscience Poverty is more effective than thought plenty. I have my share of backward people, some of whom were fans of the movie The Secret, others who thought I was broke down and leave people.

On the other hand, I have heard from the hordes of people were frustrated and tired of his own experience of "thinking wealth "and for whom the strong humility available in my description of" healthy poverty consciousness "rang true.

It accidents in various discussion forums I've participated in, where I got pushed very strongly in the public forum, and still receive private emails messages from people who were due … and went on to become clients and customers. (Thanks, do you know who you are …)

The truth is more powerful that playing it safe.

It is not much fun to get into a bar fight, throwing chairs and bottles at break (although I've always wanted to try to break chairs and bottles of sugar used in Western movies sets).

But, hiding, biting her lip and said nothing at all, it means they are leaving people who want to hear his side of things. This leaves them drowning in a flood of "business as usual."

Of course, I do not want to be rude or insulting others. How do you handle the dispute in a way that helps people, and nobody ends up getting too beaten up?

Keys to the Truth the dispute

* Make clear the controversy.

What is an opinion, idea or thought that you had in your business going against the status quo? Once you have identified, through work.

Is it an instinctive reaction, or something that really feels right for you? If it feels right, take time to be clear in their position, beyond "it just feels good." Find examples and case studies of how it worked. Sniff the principles of why is it true.

* Do not minimize what you're saying.

It's easy to minimize his vision only to be "nice" and avoid conflict. Do not. Do not be afraid to speak forcefully. "Well, I disagree with what you say. I found that many people who have worked with the struggle with plenty to think about not seeing results, and yet the awareness of poverty really true for them, and have no trouble following through and seeing the results. "

If negative conflicts, simply speak their own point of view may sound impossible. The key is to talk about yourself. Saying "I disagree" is very different to say "You're wrong." No need to talk about them. Talk about yourself and you may sound strong, without attacking anyone.

* Remember that you are speaking.

Remember: you are really talking to listeners, not people who disagree with you. The controversy with which they disagree is bringing some light to a truth that must be seen, but is not arguing with or trying to win or convince people who are dead-set against what you saying.

You're talking about those who are silent. Who are trapped. Who needs to hear a different perspective so that they can find some freedom of movement.

It is not uncommon for this type of event to release a lot of adrenaline. You can find yourself Shakey, fear, wanting hide during or after. Be gentle with yourself. Make room for fear and agitation. There is nothing wrong with you.

The world is not flat, and never was. Keep your commitment to finding the truth in the forefront, and keep your eyes on the audience in silence, lacking support in learning a different way around the world.
