The many delights of Grantown-on-Spey, Highland

Grantown-on-Spey – Highland is located in the Council of the Scottish Highlands. The Gaelic name Baile Ur nan is Scottish Granndach. The city of Inverness is only 60 km road. Grantown is located on a plateau next to the River Spey. South of Grantown, beautiful Cairngorm mountains stretching into the distance.

Grantown-on-Spey is a big city – the population in 2001 was only 2166.

Located half way through the Cairngorm and Lecht ski areas, the city has a couple of unusual sights for its size: an excellent course of eighteen holes, the very interesting Grantown Museum and Heritage Property Revack charming with its beautiful gardens, nature trails, an orchid garden and an adventure playground. It is therefore a great place to take the family for a relaxing day in the sun.

The city is also an ideal base (and acts as an alternative to Aviemore) to explore the delights of the area Strathspey. In winter many tourists come to the snowboard and ski here, you can do rock climbing, rafting, long walks, wildlife watching and general simply enjoy nature in all its abundance.

Grantown is, of course, not far from the center of the country distillery. Within a radius of 70 miles, you can visit eight distilleries in the Speyside Whisky Trail. These distilleries vary from large commercial companies to small businesses, family-run custom views and whiskey tasting sessions.

There are many places to dine in and around Grantown-on-Spey. If you want to enjoy a coffee and rolls, a quick meal, enjoy a traditional pub lunch or a dinner suit and tie, you are bound to find exactly what you were looking for. There quite a few restaurants in High Street and many others within walking distance of the city.

There is a renewed enthusiasm about the traditional dishes have more Scots and Grantown an equitable share of the best restaurants in Scotland known chefs quality management. Many local hotels and guest houses have their own restaurants of much higher quality food at affordable prices. Traditional dishes such as haggis, venison, lamb, salmon and Scottish beef are favorites of the old days, and as interesting dishes made with whiskey and other local products.

There is sufficient accommodation in and around Grantown-on-Spey – Highland to suit all tastes and budget ranges, from camping to hotels, from guest houses to self catering units, with the hostel to the odd or two thrown in.
