Walleye Jig Fishing Tips
Alaska Jig fishing is my favorite way to catch and spring is my favorite time of year to do it.
I like find a place where a river or stream that flows is of decent size in a lake in Alaska tested.
A fish finder helps put the location on the structure and helps you find the walleye. You want to get quite close to the mouth of the river, but not so close that you can not set the anchor.
You wants to get closer to falling off, but not so close that they can not put a couple of feet. Weeds should be growing in the shallow water before removal of the drop. This Alaska gives a hiding place so you can easily ambush their prey and is expected to template or primer.
In general, power law the lower part of Alaska but sometimes suspended over the area. This is another good reason to use a chart. You do not want to waste time trying to figure out what depth of the suspension of Alaska.
Once anchored up I like to cast to the side surface of the spool back and gradually falls until my direct line next to the boat.
Then I let my lifeline to the bottom and reel up to the depth of the walleye are suspended.
It's a good idea to see how much a line of 360 degrees crank on the reel be drawn up before the ship. If it comes in 1 foot of each line of crankshafts and fish are 3 feet from the Reel lower slowly 3 times around and you're done.
You have to jig and slowly lift your rod tip up and down to display a good presentation Alaska are real as picky about it.
If the walleye are 3 feet off the bottom I got my computer about 1.5 meters from the bottom. I lift my tip shank to about 2 feet then lower back down. I keep doing this until you get a hit.
You will find usually feel shock when bringing your rod tip up. The walleye are really hitting the template on your way down. By lifting the rod tip up is when you usually realize the fish is cut.
As soon as you feel the slightest of resistance must set the hook, and I mean quickly. If not set the hook immediately, is likely going to lose their walleye.
There are all kinds of templates in the market. Most work well but the color does not whatever day to day and even hour by hour.
The head color is not very important template, but it is the color of the tail. I like using twister tails in the head a normal template and a bit of Alaska smell not hurt.
I think a head of 3 / 8 oz template works well in a current fair but if the current is a bit fast I go with one ounces 1 / 2 jig head.
I often add a handler for the head template. It seems to encourage more attacks regular template. But never whether it is the dish of the day or you just have to try it and see.
Another template that works well is Northlands Mimic 'Minnow. They come in different sizes.
