Basic understanding of color theory for beginners Artists
The color is a big topic. Entire books have been written about color and would be very difficult cover all aspects of it within the limits of this article. My hope with this introduction to the theory of color is to look at your interest and we hope to to study this topic further on their own. Understanding color theory is perhaps one of the most important aspects of becoming a good painter. By understanding the elements of color and the number of colors interact with each other, have unlocked one of the biggest puzzles of the painting.
WHERE ARE COLOR?
Our beautiful world of color is only possible because the solar spectrum. Of course you can do everything possible to mimic natural light with current technology and have done a good enough job with full-spectrum light. But even full-spectrum light is not as certain as the sun. One only has to pass an outdoor painting day to see how the color goes out to you under natural sunlight, compared to indoor lighting.
So what makes a rose appears "red" or the grass looks green. In the grass, you are only seeing the grass green because it has pigments that absorb all colors of the solar spectrum except green. So green is the color that is reflected in her eyes. The same is true of the red rose, rose only absorbs all colors spectrum, in addition to red.
COLOR WHEEL
Sir Isaac Newton laid the foundation for today's color wheel with experiments which began in 1666. Since then, variations have been developed. A color wheel is essentially a diagram depicting the colors of the visible solar spectrum. His wheel basic color is composed of six colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
Another popular color wheel called the Munsell color wheel, is slightly complicated. Instead of 6 basic colors, Munsell wheel consists of ten colors: red, yellow, red, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue, green, blue, violet blue, red-violet and violet.
PRIMARY COLORS
The primary colors are red, yellow and blue. These colors are the colors based on which all other colors come from.
SECONDARY COLORS
Mixing two primary colors, you get a secondary color. Colors side are orange, green and violet. Orange is made by mixing red and yellow. Green is made by mixing blue and yellow. Violet is my blue mixed with red.
TOP COLOURS
Tertiary colors are made by mixing a primary color with secondary color. For example, mixing the primary colors blue green secondary color, tertiary color will give you a blue-green flame.
COMPLIMENTARY COLORS
These are the colors that are opposite from each other on the color wheel. Red, green, blue and orange, yellow and violet, are examples of complementary colors. Complimentary colors are the colors of extreme contrast. When are used together in a painting, which can produce bright vibrant images.
Similar COLORS
Analogous colors are the colors that are close to each other on the color wheel. That more or less consistent effects occur with very little contrast. For example, a violet, red-violet and blue-violet are examples of analogous colors.
HUE-CURRENT VALUE
Tone: Without getting too technical, and put things in terms of the laity, the hue is just another word for color. For example, grass and leaves are two variants of a green hue.
Value: The value refers to the lightness darkness of a color. Colors like pink or aqua colors are identified as high value. Colors like brown and blue colors are identified as low value. If you produces a predominantly superior paint coating, paint is known as a 'high key' painting. By contrast, the paintings produced with values predominantly children, they are known as "low key."
Intensity: Intensity refers to brightness or color saturation. Intensity refers to the purity of a color. For example, if you were to use straight from the tube cadmium red, which would have a high intensity. If you were to mix with another color but its intensity would decreased.
COLOR TEMPERATURE
The colors are temperature, known as hot or cold. In painting, red, yellow and oranges are called warm colors, blue, violet and green are called cool colors. One of the biggest lessons will be learned about the temperature Color, however, is that the color appearance can change dramatically depending on your environment. For example, a certain yellow looks a lot hotter if surrouned by a violet then say an orange. Another important lesson on color temperature: warm colors advance in a box and away the cool colors.?
